HL Player Terms of Service
Effective date: June 9, 2026
HL Player is a tool that helps users play, organize, analyze, generate subtitles for, edit highlights from, and back up/restore video files that they own or are authorized to process. The major features are currently available without in-app purchases.
This English version is provided for convenience. In case of any discrepancy between the Korean and English versions, the Korean version shall prevail to the extent permitted by applicable law.Korean original
1. Service Provider
HL Player is currently provided through an individual developer account before business registration and without in-app purchases. The current service provider is Pangaeha, HL Player operator. If business registration is completed or paid features/advertising are introduced, the service provider information and paid feature terms will be updated.
2. Scope of Service
HL Player may provide local features that operate inside the app separately from auxiliary services connected outside the app, such as the PC subtitle web page, PC engine setup files, model lists, connection links, remote configuration, and notices. The actual scope of features may vary depending on app version, device environment, permission settings, operating system policies, whether the PC engine is installed, supported environments, and operating status.
- Local video/audio playback, folder browsing, search, sorting, and recent playback management
- Management of highlights, A-B segments, tags, playlists, multiview presets, achievements, and per-profile settings
- Subtitle display, in-app subtitle generation, and subtitle translation/correction
- PC subtitle generation assistance, including the PC subtitle web page, PC engine setup files, model lists, model download guidance, and connection links
- Remote configuration, notices, feature availability guidance, and model/engine distribution information
- Highlight compact video creation, original-source handling options, trash, backup/restore, sharing, and export
3. User Content and Rights
- Users must use subtitle generation, translation, cut editing, and sharing features only for content they own or have lawful rights to process.
- Users are responsible for the use and distribution of videos, audio, subtitles, highlights, edited files, backup files, and shared data.
- Users must not use the service in a way that infringes another person's copyright, portrait rights, privacy, or other rights.
- HL Player does not acquire ownership of content that users import into the app or process locally.
4. Local Files, Deletion, and Backup
HL Player may handle files and app data on the user's device or PC. Before performing actions such as deletion, moving to trash, permanent deletion, deleting original highlights, deleting original video files, backup/restore, or compact video creation, users must review the target and options.
- Resetting app data may delete app-managed data such as video lists, highlights, tags, playlists, multiview presets, thumbnails, and settings. Original video files are not deleted merely by resetting app data unless the user separately selects a file deletion action.
- File deletion or emptying trash may affect actual files in device storage, and recovery may be difficult depending on the operating system or storage state.
- Backup packages may include per-profile app data, highlights, tags, playlists, multiview presets, settings, and similar data. Users are responsible for storing, moving, deleting, and sharing backup files.
- Users should maintain separate backups before editing, deleting, extracting, or moving important files.
5. Subtitle Generation, Models, and Results
Subtitle generation, translation, and correction features are assistive tools that analyze user-selected content and suggest results. Generated or translated results may be inaccurate, and users should review them before using them for study, work, distribution, or public posting.
- Model files may be downloaded from external providers, and model license, size, performance, supported languages, and device requirements may vary by model.
- Google ML Kit Translate SDK may be used for subtitle translation, and Google's terms and privacy standards may apply to that SDK and its translation models.
- PC subtitle generation may be processed in the user's PC browser or local PC engine, and behavior may vary depending on device performance, browser policies, and network conditions.
- HL Player does not guarantee that generated subtitles, translations, or analysis results are suitable for any particular purpose or error-free.
6. PC Engine
The PC engine is a local tool installed on the user's Windows PC. During installation, a local API, browser launch protocol, and Edge/Chrome local connection policy values may be registered for the current user account. The uninstaller can remove related files and registered values.
The operation of an already installed local PC engine is separate from online setup file downloads, the PC subtitle web page, model lists, connection links, remote configuration, and notices. These online auxiliary services may change or end depending on supported environments, external providers, security, and operating status. HL Player does not guarantee that these auxiliary services will continue without an end date.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Local API | The PC engine is designed to operate on the user's PC at the local address 127.0.0.1. |
| Browser/protocol registration | The hlplayer-engine:// protocol and Edge/Chrome local connection policy values may be registered during installation. |
| Supported environment | PC subtitle generation and the PC engine are currently supported based on Windows 10/11 x64 PCs and Edge or Chrome browser environments. Features may be unavailable or limited on other operating systems, CPU architectures, or browsers. |
| Online auxiliary services | The PC subtitle web page, setup file download page, model lists, connection links, remote configuration, and notices are separate auxiliary services. Their delivery method, scope, or availability may vary depending on operation and support status. |
| User responsibility | Users should install the PC engine only on trusted PCs and must not arbitrarily modify installation files or model files. |
7. Sharing, Export, and External Services
When users select features such as sharing, export, opening in another app, model download, or moving to the Play Store, the policies of the user-selected app, browser, storage location, or external service may apply. Share links may include metadata needed for sharing, such as file name, part of a file hash, file size/length, tags, highlight time, title, and description. HL Player cannot control how content or links directly shared by the user are processed externally.
8. Fees and Paid Features
HL Player currently does not provide in-app purchases, and its major features can be used without payment. In the future, some features may become paid features or new paid features may be added. In that case, the applicable scope, price, payment method, and impact on existing users will be announced in advance through the app or official notice page. Users will not be charged automatically without their explicit purchase or subscription consent. If paid features are introduced and a paid feature is ended during its paid availability period for a reason attributable to the HL Player operator, refund or compensation procedures for the unused period will be guided in accordance with Google Play policy and applicable law.
9. Service Changes, Updates, and Suspension
HL Player may change or discontinue some features of the app, web pages, PC engine, model lists, connection links, remote configuration/notices, or guide documents for feature improvement, security, operating system policy changes, external SDK or model provider changes, bug fixes, or legal compliance. Important changes will be announced through the app or official web page.
For a planned full shutdown of the service or a planned end to major online auxiliary services, HL Player will announce it through the app or official web page as much as possible 30 days in advance.
However, HL Player may change, restrict, or discontinue the service or some features without prior notice when advance notice is difficult or immediate action is required, including security vulnerabilities, laws or government requests, changes by external SDK/model/storage providers, emergency failures, responses to misuse or rights infringement, platform policy changes, or technical risks. In such cases, follow-up notice will be provided where reasonably possible.
The PC subtitle web page, PC engine setup file distribution, model lists, model download guidance, connection links, remote configuration, and notices are auxiliary services separate from the app's local playback and organization features. These Terms should not be interpreted as a commitment to provide those auxiliary services without an end date.
10. Privacy and Data Processing
Personal information processing, data retention, deletion, and external service use are governed by the Privacy Policy. Users should review the Privacy Policy before deciding whether to use the service.
11. Open Source and Third-Party Components
HL Player may use open-source software, Android/Flutter components, media processing libraries, subtitle models, or external distribution repositories. Each component may be subject to separate licenses, notices, and terms of use. Major notices are available in the Open Source Notices.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties and Liability
HL Player and third-party open-source components/models are provided as is to the extent permitted by applicable law. To the extent permitted by law, HL Player does not guarantee specific results regarding user file deletion, editing results, subtitle generation results, backup file management, external app sharing, or behavior differences caused by device, browser, or operating system environments. Users should maintain backups before processing important data.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are interpreted under the laws of the Republic of Korea. If a dispute arises, users may first contact support@hlplayer.app. Unless a separate jurisdiction is specified by applicable law, procedures under relevant laws will apply.
14. Contact and Changes to Terms
Questions about service use and general support may be submitted to support@hlplayer.app. Privacy-related inquiries and deletion requests may be submitted to privacy@hlplayer.app. These Terms may be revised due to changes in the service, laws, data processing methods, or whether paid features are introduced. Important changes will be announced through the app or official web page.
